     The Ken Aldcroft Trio presents Big Picture (trio 002), an unpretentious, likeable swinger with Aldcroft on guitar, Brian Harding on trombone, Nick Gaffaney on drums. Mainly originals by the leader, the music comes first, the players leaping out of the lines with spirit and wisdom. They're not trying to split the atom here, or take a whole tone down under microtonal interrogations. Nicely recorded, the three instruments covering a spectrum of colour, shape and sonority. This trio has worked together, taken the time to get it right. Relaxed, inventive fun, with just a touch of toolywagger. Worth checking out.
